Federation of Voluntary Blood Donors’ Organisations, West Bengal (FVBDOWB) is a registered Society and Cooperative apex body of the voluntary organisations associated with the voluntary blood donation movement in the state of West Bengal. Though it was officially formed in the year 2008 with its federative character to oversee and coordinate the activities of the voluntary organisations remaining under its unbrella, it was in fact working since 1998 in some other form named as ‘Samannaya Committee’.
The Federation has become the main body to take up all the problems related to blood transfusion service and blood donation movement of the state with the health authorities, give suggestions for improvement and to raise o them the voices of the voluntary organisations of the State.
The FVBDOWB has, at present, 60 constituent member organisations and is run by the active involvements of all the constituent member organisations.
To highlight the role of voluntary and non-remunerated regular blood and component donations by spreading education within the community of the State of West Bengal in achieving safe blood transfusion for all, ensuring the Haemovigilance and rational use by the end users. Parallelly, increasing awareness in the community about transfusion-transmitted infections viz- HIV, Viral Hepatitis, Syphilis, Malaria etc. as well as transfusion related Disorder viz- Thalassaemia, Sickle Cell Anaemia & Haemophilia to reduce the need of transfusion.

It has been estimated that FVBDOWB-associated organisations are contributing 30% of the total blood collection in the State. Some Mega VBD Camps like Frank Warrel Day, Football Lovers' Day, Rakhi Bandhan, Eve of Durgapuja Camps etc.
We are keeping close liaison with District, State and National Level Administration(s) for the betterment of the transfusion service for the people.
Transfusion Transmitted infections are the most vulnerable problems in recurring transfusions. Our different Organisations are working through Awareness on prevention of HIV, Viral Hepatitis, Syphilis and Malaria in the State.
Education Programmes at Schools, Colleges & Universities, Motivational talks to recruit new donors and retaintion of the existing voluntary donors and Social Workers.
It is estimated that 40% of the collected blood of the Govt. Blood Centers are being consumed by Thalassaemia and SCDs. Hence, preventing defective birth shall bring a change in sustainable growth.
Seminars are scientific ways to exchange views with different State and District Level Organisations. Since 1985, AVBDWB and many organisations like SSSKS, TVBDA are organising Seminar and Workshops state and nationwide.
