Federation of Voluntary Blood Donors’ Organisations, West Bengal (FVBDOWB) is a registered Society and Cooperative apex body of the voluntary organisations associated with the voluntary blood donation movement in the state of West Bengal. Though it was officially formed in the year 2008 with its federative character to oversee and coordinate the activities of the voluntary organisations remaining under its unbrella, it was in fact working since 1998 in some other form named as ‘Samannaya Committee’.

The Federation has become the main body to take up all the problems related to blood transfusion service and blood donation movement of the state with the health authorities, give suggestions for improvement and to raise o them the voices of the voluntary organisations of the State.

The FVBDOWB has, at present, 60 constituent member organisations and is run by the active involvements of all the constituent member organisations. 

1. To steer up and strengthen the voluntary blood donation movement in the State of West Bengal
2. To liaise between various organisations engaged in voluntary blood donation movement in the state of West Bengal
3. To help setting up new organisations for the furtherance of the voluntary blood donation drive in the state.
4. To assist and guide organisations in the smooth and effective conduction of meetings, seminers, Workshops, Conferences or the like on theme(s) related to blood donation in the state.
5. To promote educational and training programme for generating awareness about blood donation at all levels in the state
6. To communicate with Government(s), appropriate authorities, cooperative bodies, individuals or any other organisations(s) for improvement of safe blood transfusion in the state.
7. To work for the improvement and betterment of the safe blood transfusion service in the State.
8. To do all such other things complementary and or supplementary to the objects of the Federation or are identical or conducive to the attainment of the above objects.

To highlight the role of voluntary and non-remunerated regular blood and component donations by spreading education within the community of the State of West Bengal in achieving safe blood transfusion for all, ensuring the Haemovigilance and rational use by the end users. Parallelly, increasing awareness in the community about transfusion-transmitted infections viz- HIV, Viral Hepatitis, Syphilis, Malaria etc. as well as transfusion related Disorder viz- Thalassaemia, Sickle Cell Anaemia & Haemophilia to reduce the need of transfusion.

1. Access to safe and adequate blood and blood components for every patient across the State boundaries.
2. Recruitment and retention of Voluntary Blood Donors through Education, Motivation, Blood Donation and Recognition as well as to ensure their safety within the State.
3. To keep a close vigil on the State blood transfusion services and liaison with appropriate authorities to ensure sustainable development of the transfusion services within the State Government Health facilities.
